Candle cure time, explained: how long to wait, what it does, and how to plan production around it

The short answer: soy candles need about 1–2 weeks of cure time, paraffin needs 2–3 days, and coconut blends fall in between at about 5–7 days. Curing is when the fragrance oil fully binds into the wax — burn too early and the candle throws weak, no matter how good the recipe is.
What's actually happening: fragrance oil doesn't chemically bond with wax the moment you pour. Over days, the oil molecules distribute and settle into the wax's crystal structure. A soy candle burned at 48 hours often smells noticeably weaker than the same candle burned at day 10. Customers don't know about cure time — they just know your candle 'wasn't very strong.'
Typical cure windows by wax: paraffin 2–3 days, soy 1–2 weeks (many makers swear by a full two), coconut and coconut-soy blends about a week. Harder waxes and higher fragrance loads trend longer. When in doubt, test: burn one candle at 3 days, one at 7, one at 14, and let your own nose set the standard.
The business problem cure time creates: it puts a hard floor under your lead time. If a shop orders Monday and your candles need 10 days to cure, nothing ships before late next week no matter how fast you pour. Makers who ignore this either ship under-cured candles (weak throw, bad reviews) or blow their promised dates (worse reviews).
The fix is scheduling, not speed. Work backwards from the ship date: ship day minus cure window minus pour-and-label day equals your latest pour date. Keep your best sellers curing on a rolling basis so retail orders ship from cured stock, and quote wholesale lead times that include the cure — two to three weeks is normal and buyers know it.
Track it like it matters, because it does. Every batch should carry its pour date and its ready date, and nothing should ship before ready. In WaxLogic, production batches move from planned to poured to curing to completed with those dates attached, so you can see at a glance what's sellable today and what needs another week.
